Hey out there all you crazy cats! Sometimes, even writers need a little bit of inspiration, right? I used to keep this awesome little Star Trek:The Next Generation journal on my desk (filled with inspirational quotes) for whenever I was in need of that special sentiment. Quotes have always been super important to me, especially when I'm having writer's block. For that very reason, we're switching things up a bit today and speaking with somebody totally new... somebody that knows a helluva lot about inspiration. Today we're speaking with Matthew, the creator of QuoteJive.com.
Hi, Matthew. Thanks for stopping by! What can you tell us about QuoteJive.com?
MATTHEW- I created QuoteJive a couple months ago as a community for quote lovers to share their inspiration. With every entrepreneur a founder of their company hopefully I can be a profound-er. Trust me, that sounded a lot less cheesy when I was thinking it up.
Most of my readers are people in the book world (authors, readers, agents, editors, etc.). They’re all often in need of a bit of inspiration. Is this something that your site can help with?
MATTHEW- Absolutely. My vision for QuoteJive is a community where anyone can find inspiration on any topic they’re interested in and have the power to share theirs with the world. Not auto-generated quotes like some sites but the best quotes on each subject, hand-picked by the community with the best ones voted up to the top.
The sub-title for the site is “Inspiration Nation”. What was your “inspiration” for creating this site?
MATTHEW- The line I always remember from the movie “Thank You For Smoking” was by Rob Lowe’s character, a marketer, who said “We need to send the message that smoking is cool!” My thinking is it’s time we sent the message to America that quotes are cool! We can all use some more inspiration in our lives.
How is what you’re offering different from what we might find on similar quotation search sites?
MATTHEW- I saw a lot of quote sites out there that were bland, boring and entirely text-based. We support posting your favorite quotes by typing them out as normal or you can get creative with pics featuring the quotes on them (any shape or size). We’re the only volunteer quote community right now that mixes both together freestyle. Plus you can post your thoughts and comments on each individual quote, unlike most quote sites. And we don’t force you to register an account or sign in with Facebook/Twitter. You can remain anonymous if you want to.
Who submits/contributes quotes to Quote Jive?
MATTHEW- We have a volunteer community of quote lovers like Kath and Emily leading the way, people with a passion for finding that perfect quote that inspires or motivates someone to make a change for the better. Anyone can join in, share their favorite quotes, and leave comments about what a particular quote means to them.
What is your personal favorite quote of all time? -My favorite quote of all time is:“All human beings are also dream beings. Dreaming ties all mankind together.” –Jack Kerouac. Please tell me that one’s up there somewhere… ‘cause it’s awesome.
MATTHEW- Embarrassed to say it wasn’t but it is now. I just added it under dream quotes. My favorite is a Chuck Palahniuk quote by Tyler Durden in Fight Club: “It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.”
I’m pretty sure that I’ve
never before seen a collection of “badass quotes”. Is this some of what we can
expect from Quote Jive?
MATTHEW- LMFAO You know it. We’re already in the process of building the ultimate
list of badass quotes like "SAY MY NAME!!!" from Breaking Bad so if anyone has some more just add them to the list.
Ok, here’s your chance,
man. Convince me (and my readers) why we should type www.quotejive.com into our address bars and
visit the site.
MATTHEW- Do you want to go to a vanilla quotes site created by a greedy
corporation with sayings churned out in assembly-line fashion or do you want to
contribute to a real volunteer quote lovers community created by hand where you
have the power and freedom to express yourself adding your favorite quotes and
what they mean to you?
Thanks so much for hanging out with us all today, Matthew! I've checked
out the site myself and it looks great! My suggestion to you all is to head on
over and see what it's all about. Don't wait!
